03 Feb Conveying emotions through art
After viewing the emotive works of Käthe Kollwitz, children drew their own portraits using a series of lines and experimented with ‘halo’ and ‘chiaroscuro’ techniques. Halo technique is when you add darker shading around the outline of your portrait to create a powerful effect.
Chiaroscuro means like/dark. It is a style where the contrasting shadows and light part of a drawing or painting is greatly emphasised. Having done so with graphite pencils, year 6 enlarged one of their portraits onto A4 card using charcoal as a medium. I am sure you will agree that the outcomes are impressive!
