13 Jun Year 6 at The Natural History Museum
On Wednesday, Year 6 attended a workshop on Evolution to support their current science unit of Evolution and Inheritance. As part of the workshop, they took part in an activity looking at fossils of ancient horse relatives. They discussed differences between fossils and were asked to think about the way environmental factors have influenced the evolution of these animals. The children then took part in a game in which a leaf blower was used to simulate a storm on the island of Turks and Caicos! They looked at lizards specifically, and learnt that there are variations in features within species that are advantageous for survival which are more likely to be passed onto offspring and lead to population changes. Students then visited the From the Beginning gallery and worked in groups to examine fossil evidence from the past 545 million years!
