06 Mar World Book Day
We started the week off with a World Book Day assembly where the children shared what they enjoy reading and their memorable characters or books. They also had the opportunity to guess staff members favourite books with references to themes, characters, genres and more.
Not only have we dressed up this year for World Book Day as a character or a word, but we have also run an exciting competition. Children, from early years up to year 6, have brought in some fantastic stories on a plate inspired by a classic, narrative-driven pattern like the Willow Pattern. I am sure that you will agree that the creativity and effort that has gone into these projects is great!
Also, children across the school have had the opportunity to swap books with each other. The children have been so excited to get in to South Harringay’s ‘bookshop’ and give each other recommendations of what they should read and take home- you will see lots of excited faces holding their chosen book!
On World Book Day, during class, children have created some reading rivers- sharing their journey of reading with us. Some children have written recommendations, some children have designed a new front cover for their favourite book….and more!
Finally, children have been able to watch a virtual author event and there has been a lot of talk about these authors and their love of reading and where they took inspiration from too!
It has been a great week full of motivated, enthused and excited children!
