A school council is group of students who are elected to represent the views of all pupils and to improve their school. School council members are elected from each class year 1 – year 6 at the start of the academic year.
The school council does a number of things
The school council meets, with our learning mentor present – to discuss and sort out problems. These may include school lunches, behaviour or ideas for fundraising events.
Members of the school council are responsible for carrying out the ideas that have been agreed, such as planning discos, writing newspaper articles, or meeting with catering staff.
The aims of the school council are
- To make sure that our school is a safe and happy place for children.
- To make sure that children have a place to voice their concerns.
- To encourage all children in the school to suggest improvements.
- To make sure any suggestions or concerns are listened to and acted upon.
Each year our school council responds to our pupil’s annual safety survey. They council tries to offer solutions to any issues which children feel are making them feel unsafe arounds school. Recent innovations include:
- Murals painted in the Infant School toilets to make them brighter and more inviting
- Playground rules displayed in the Junior playground to remind children how to play safely
This year our chosen charity is the Ellen Pear Outreach Children’s Charity. Our school councils have come up with several fund raising ideas to aid us in supporting this charity.
