05 Jan Year 6: The toy makers
In DT, all children were given a design brief that stated that they were to create a stuffed animal toy that was made with felt and sewn with a blanket stitch. Although they were excited to be designing a toy, the children were initially concerned about sewing. They however rose to the challenge of learning how to sew using a blanket stitch and we are sure you will agree have produced some fantastic toys.
Here are some of the children’s comments from when they evaluated their finished product –
“I think I have done well with sewing on the eyes and the nose. Towards the end, I really got the hang of blanket stitch.” Iris
“I think I did well when making my stuffed toy. The reason being, I was resilient.” Nicolas
“One of the biggest challenges was making sure that there were no holes… I am proud of myself … I did not realise that I could make a home-made stuffed toy.” Kylan
“The sewing and the blanket stich were a hard so I had a bit of help but I think I did a good job overall.” Alymira
