At South Harringay School we provide an appropriate, inclusive and engaging English Curriculum. Where possible, links are made to the half termly theme (key stage one) or International Primary Curriculum (key stage 2) so that much of the writing is linked to their topic work.
Children are helped to develop a love for reading through the use of carefully selected class texts; daily guided reading sessions which challenge them to apply their reading skills in depth and celebrations, such as, weekly reading champions, along with other events, like World Book Day.
The Read Write Inc. programme is used daily in EYFS and key stage one, and as an intervention in key stage 2, to help children to progress to a reading level that enables them to access the English and the wider curriculum.
During all lessons across the school, children have the opportunity to develop their spoken language capabilities and improve their listening skills through a wide range of activities.
